Biofertiliser Training Course
2014 Biofertiliser Training Course
Sponsored by the Crawford Fund with support from LMI LUSES and Deakin University
Date: 21-25 April 2014, Land Development Department, Bangkok, Thailand
Announcement of Biofertiliser Training Course
The course will give participants a sound understanding of microbiology, how to grow, purify and store bacteria and how to identify them to be able to determine the microbial quality of commercial inoculants. This course will enable participants to:
1. Isolate, purify and characterise bacteria using standard and robust methodologies from existing inoculant products with the objective to assess their microbial quality
2. Identify to genus level target bacteria using basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and preparing bacterial DNA for sequencing.
The course will also:
3. Demonstrate robust and simple lab and/or greenhouse techniques to measure plant-growth promoting mechanisms on strains to confirm claimed effect with the objective to assess the effect of those products on plant growth.
4. Deliver a detailed handbook of methods relevant for assessment of microbial products.
The cost of flights, accommodation and meals will be provided for successful applicants.
Deadline for application is 30th October 2013.
Late applications will not be considered.
